Community Programmes

St Mary’s DSG was one of the very first schools in the country to operate an Outreach programme, which over the years has touched in one form or another countless people from under privileged segments of society.

In 2013 St Mary’s DSG Outreach was privileged to be able to distribute over R1M to the following charities: Irene Homes, Tumelong Mission, Tshwaraganang Community Trust, Help Seniors, SPCA, CHOC, Endangered Wild Life Trust, Feed a family, Cradle of Hope, Soroptomist International, Leamogetwe Safety Home.

The debutante programme was also able to distribute over R600 000 to: Irene Homes, SOS Villages, Mother of Peace, New Beginningz, SPCA, Sungardens Hospice, Reach for a Dream, Help Seniors, CANSA and the SA Guide Dogs Association, Girls and Boys Town, The Louis Botha Childrens’ Home, The Jakaranda Children’s Home and Tshwane Place of Safety.

All Grade 8s and 9s are required to register community service throughout the year and efforts are made through the school to further advance our relationship with the above charities by actual contact between pupils and those less fortunate than themselves, believing indeed that it is “more blessed to give than to receive.”

One of the specialist grade 12 Portfolios is the Reach Out portfolio which guides the school in other activities like the “Day without Shoes,” Blood drives and the like.

Junior School Girls also are encouraged to assist and are renowned for the generosity in every way.
